The release of Palestinian prisoners has set off an Israeli backlash ahead of John Kerry's 10th visit to the Holy Land in the past 10 months The release of long-term Palestinian prisoners jailed for "terrorism" triggered an angryIsraelibacklash on Tuesday that threatened to overshadow the expected arrival of John Kerry, the US secretary of state, to begin talks on a proposed "framework" peace agreement. Twenty-six inmates incarcerated since before the 1993 Oslo Peace Accords were given a hero's welcome in the West Bank city of Ramallah after being freed from Israeli custody early on Tuesday. They were the third of four batches of prisoners Israel agreed to release last July, as part of the price for re-starting long-stalled peace talks with the Palestinians. President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday maintained that he rose from the smallest community in Bayelsa State to become the President of Nigeria by the grace of God and support of the people. Speaking at the Apostolic Faith Church in Jabi, Abuja, where he worshiped with the congregation in the Sunday Church Service, Jonathan who is presently not in good terms with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, noted that lack of love and unity has been the greatest problem facing the country. Likening the present challenges in Nigeria to those faced by the Israelites in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible when leaving Egypt for the Promised Land, he promised to bequeath a better Nigeria to the upcoming children. He urged the congregation to continue to pray for Nigeria as the country has been specially blessed by God and will get to greater heights through the prayers of Nigerians. Suarez felt he was fouled by both Eto’o and John Terry in the second half at Stamford Bridge. But Mourinho said: “Eto’o comes in and it looks like somebody shot Suarez in the back. For me that is a clear yellow card. “He’s an amazing player but he tries too much to provoke these situations. “He’s doing an acrobatic swimming pool jump to try and get the penalty because …

National Confab: PDP, Presidency Carpet Elechi!
The Presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party have said that all the states governed by the party must participate in the national conference slated for next year, stating that participation at the conference is beyond any governor’s approval. The assertion was in reaction to comments by Ebonyi State Governor Martin Elechi that he will not participate in the national conference being planned by President Goodluck Jonathan. Elechi had on Friday in his native Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State dismissed the planned conference as “a big joke, waste of time, and a distraction to Goodluck Jonathan.” Elechi, a PDP member long known for his ardent devotion to Jonathan, said he would distance himself from the dialogue if his people insisted on participating, in what is seen as a sign of crack within the rank of the president’s supporters. The governor spoke when some political elders in the state, who had paid him Christmas homag…

The Presidency Saturday said members of the National Assembly who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would soon lose their seats.
It said over half of the members will not return to their seats after the expected by-election. The presidency, through the Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said it was unperturbed by the “recent wave of orchestrated defection by PDP politicians especially members of the national assembly.” Okupe, in a chat with THISDAY in Lagos, said it was unfortunate that the lawmakers chose to follow the dictates of their state governors who had in the last several months tried unsuccessfully to destabilise the PDP and create apprehension in the minds of the populace. He said with the exception of Rivers State, a cursory analysis of the 2011 general election showed that the states where the defecting gover…
