There are indications that the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) may have called off its five month old strike.
After a protracted debate, the Federal Government and ASUU reached a compromise during a negotiation brokered by the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar few days ago.
Sources in Minna hinted that the decision was reached few hours ago after a marathon meeting of the union held at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.
The union had insisted that until its four demands were met, it would not return to classes. The demands were the inclusion of the 2009 agreement in the memorandum of Understanding, the signature of the Attorney General, the inclusion of the non victimisation clause and the deposit of the N200 Billion revitalisation/ infrasturcture fund at the Central Bank of Nigeria
The key was the N200 Billion which was the plank of the latest dispute. The Federal Government through one of his spokesmen, Doyin Okupe last week showed evidence of the money to the media.
