North Korea’s Kim Jong Un has sprung two Americans who had been imprisoned for months and self-appointed emissary Dennis Rodman claimed credit for the release of one, nypost reports.
“No doubt our trips helped influence Kenneth Bae’s release and I’m happy he is coming home safely,” Rodman told TMZ.
The ex-NBA star showed off a letter he sent to Kim in January, calling the dictator “my dear friend” and praising how “loving and compassionate” he would appear by setting Bae free.
Bae, a missionary, had been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for giving out anti-regime propaganda.
Also set free was tourist Matthew Todd Miller, who had faced six years of hard labor after tearing up his visa and seeking asylum in what the North Koreans described as a covert mission to document human-rights abuses.
Both men flew home Saturday, accompanied by US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
