Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Is Set To Be Released Soon.
A court has ordered the former leader to be freed as he had stayed in prison for the maximum two years without a final verdict in his trial.
But prosecutors may choose to appeal this verdict, which may delay his release.
Last year he was sentenced to life in prison but a retrial was set after he successfully appealed.Mubarak faces charges of killing protesters during the Arab Spring in 2011 when he was deposed and of accepting gifts from state newspapers.
Mubarak’s release could further heighten tensions in the country, with violent clashes having already led to the deaths of many people following the coup against the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi.
Mohamed Abolghar, head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, said: ‘We should focus on building the country, establishing democracy and finishing the problem of the Muslim Brotherhood.
‘The government knows that if Mubarak is freed there will be public outrage, but a court decision is a court decision.’
