AMAECH'S GROUP READY FOR WAR IN BAYELSA

The crisis, rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has spread to Bayelsa State, home state of President Goodluck Jonathan, where some members of the party had declared support for the Alhaji Kawu Baraje faction of the party, is far from being over. The Bayelsa new PDP are heading to the court to enforce their fundamental human rights that guarantee freedom of association.
The Bayelsa State Police Command had, in a statement personally signed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara, alerted Bayelsa residents over a plot by members of the new PDP to destabilise the state.
Opara warned persons associated with the group, including their sponsors, to desist forthwith, stressing that no such group or any other organisation not legally registered would be allowed to disrupt the existing peace and tranquility in the State.
According to the statement, the police and other security agencies in the state had been put on notice and urged members of the public to promptly report the existence or the activities of such illegal groups in any part of the state to the nearest police station or security outfit for necessary action.
Meanwhile, the interim chairman of the new PDP in Bayelsa, Mr. Richard Kpodoh, said there was no going back on their decision to open their office in Yenagoa this week.
Kpodo, who recently raised the alarm over alleged plans to assassinate him, lamented that it was only in Bayelsa that the police had declared politicians wanted, adding that in other places, the worst the police did was to close the office and not arrest them.
He debunked insinuations that they were fighting the cause of former governor Timipre Sylva, stressing that they were genuinely interested in the progress of the party.
His words: “We are not intimidated by the police. We have not committed any offence, so we will go ahead with what we are doing and dare them to arrest us. Nigeria is not a lawless society.
“I worked for Governor DSP Alamieyeseigha as director of operations, Centre for Youth Development. I was Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan, when he was governor of the state, on Strategy and Policy Monitoring, before Sylva appointed me Senior Special Assistant and later Special Adviser on security. So, what do they mean when they call us Sylva’s loyalists? We are committed PDP members, who care so much for what happens to the party both at the national and state level.”
