MORE THAN HALF OF PILOTS HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP ON THE FLIGHT DECK

Tired pilots ‘are main threat to safe flying’

More than half of pilots have fallen asleep on the flight deck, a poll suggests.
Nearly one-third of those who admitted it said they saw the other pilot asleep when they woke up.
Most described tiredness as the biggest threat to flight safety.
It follows the revelation that two pilots on a passenger Airbus were asleep at  the same time while the British-operated aircraft flew on autopilot last month.
The survey by the British Airline Pilots Association (Balpa) was conducted before the European parliament votes on new Europe-wide rules for flying hours on Monday.
Balpa says the proposed regulations will lower British safety standards.
