SEVERAL PEOPLE DEAD ATFER SHOOTING AT US NAVAL BASE.

The US Navy says there are reports of multiple fatalities and injuries from the attack from two gun men which occurred inside its Naval Sea Systems Command headquarters.
"An active shooter was reported inside the…building on the Washington Navy Yard at 8:20am Eastern Time," the Navy announced in a statement.
One gunman has been "contained" according to police.
Reports from the scene says there are at least two shooters while others are saying there are three attackers.
The Washington Post, citing police sources, reported earlier that three shooters, including one in military fatigues, were involved.
A Defense Department official says several people have been killed and as many as 10 have been wounded in a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.
One witness, Todd Brundidge, said he came face to face with one of the shooters while trying to flee the building.

"He came around the corner, he aimed his gun at us and he fired at least two or three shots... and we ran down the stairs to get out of the building and after we left the building there were still shots in the building," he said.
The Washington Post, citing police sources, reported that three shooters, including one in military fatigues, were involved.
The attackers reportedly walked into the building and opened fire just after 8am local time. At least one of the men is believed to be armed with an AR-15 assault rifle.
The rifle is the the same weapon used in the both the Aurora cinema shooting where 12 people were killed and the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut last year, where gunman Adam Lanza killed 20 children.

Multiple local and national law enforcement agencies are at the scene as well as SWAT teams.

There are also pictures of at least one man being rescued by a helicopter and carried to safety.
US President Barack Obama is getting frequent briefings on the shootings.
A number of schools in the Washington area have been put on lockdown untill further notice.
The Navy Yard dates to the 18th century and is the oldest Navy installation.
It houses a museum, the residence of the chief of naval operations and is responsible for weapons development among other roles.
