Anambra guber: PPA campaign director escapes assassination!
The Director of Publicity and Media, Godwin Ezeemo Campaign Organisation, Mr. Okey Nwoke has said that he narrowly escaped death when he was accosted by suspected dare devil killers at Igbo Ukwu town, Anambra State yesterday.
Nwoke told Daily Sun in a telephone interview that he encountered the suspected assassins close to the National Museum, Igbo Ukwu while on his way to Ekwulobia to attend a church programme alongside other members of the campaign group.
He said the suspected assassins who drove in a ash coloured Toyota Camry vehicle sharply overtook him and blocked his car, while two young men dressed in black flowing robes, came out of the car and quickly pulled out their guns and pointed at him.
According to him, “They immediately told each other in their local language ‘That’s him’ ‘That’s him’, “You are the one writing all these nonsense”. On realising that there was no vehicle behind him, Mr. Nwoke said he engaged the car on reverse and quickly sped back as the gunmen sprayed his car with bullets shattering the windscreen but he miraculously escaped unhurt without any bullet wound.
The incident he said, was immediately reported to the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Headquarters in Anambra state. The Divisional Police Officer confirmed the incident to journalists and promised to fish out the culprits behind the dastard act. The campaign director said it was a miracle that he escaped the attack, wondering why any one would want him dead.
Reacting to the incident Mr. Ezeemo the Progressives People Alliance(PPA) gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming Anambra governorship elections condemned the attempt on the life of one of his top aides.
According to him, ‘This desperate attempt on the life of Okey Nwoke shows the level we have sunk to as a people.
A violent man is the man who has run out of ideas and feels that the only means to his goals is through violence.” He enjoined his supporters and the people of Anambra state not to be deterred by the incident but to keep faith with hope, trust and diligence in the pursuit to change Anambra for the benefit of all. The Sun reports.
