Nikkita Milledge logged into her Facebook account on Saturday afternoon and was crushed to find hundreds of messages about the death of her 15-year-old son.
Her son Anthoney Warren was shot dead outside a block of flats when he was involved in an alleged robbery attempt that went horribly wrong.
Ms Milledge from Indianapolis, US, told US news service WHTR that she had done her best to keep Anthoney out of trouble "but it wasn't enough".
She had tried to contact her son on the phone – 50 minutes after he was shot.
After not being able to reach him, she logged into Facebook to see the gut-wrenching messages filling his page.

She told Fox news: “Someone put on Facebook, ‘RIP Anthony, I will miss you’ and then the phone calls started coming in to my house and cell phone."
Police say Anthoney was shot by 19-year-old Brice Price, who was taken into custody on Tuesday.
They said the two may have been plotting a robbery together before the incident happened.
Funeral services for Anthoney have been contacted and the local police are still investigating his death.
Ms Milledge said: "Very unbelievable that my son was gunned down in broad daylight.
"Just hope he’s good in heaven right now, looking down on us.
