Okorocha Disagrees With Ohanaeze Over 2015 Presidency!

For stating that prominent Igbo politicians should shelve their 2015 presidential ambitions, Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has faulted the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey, saying his decision was hasty as he did not consult widely.
According to the governor, who was reacting to the Ohanaeze chieftain’s advice in his statement when he visited the former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, that prominent Igbo citizens should suspend their presidential ambition, maintained that it was the constitutional right of every qualified Nigerian to vie for the highest position in the land.
Okorocha’s response which came through a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, said in suspending prominent Igbo citizens from running for president in 2015, the Ohanaeze president should have indicated the reasons for action.
“He should have explained what Ndi-Igbo have got to warrant such decision and what they intend to gain for also doing so, since such sensitive political action needs some justifications,” he said.
According to him, the Ohanaeze president should not have given Ndi-Igbo an open cheque by saying that a president of Igbo origin would emerge at the appropriate time, adding Ndi-Igbo would prefer a filled cheque by being told in clear terms, and in the language of the Ohanaeze president, when the appropriate time will be.
Meanwhile, ahead of the 2015 general election, Okorocha, has instructed members of his cabinet who would want to run for elective positions to declare interest immediately for him to weigh options of which position he would be willing to contest, even though he had subtly expressed interest in re-running for the governorship.
Okorocha, who made this declaration in a meeting at the Government House, Owerri had indirectly kick-started political campaigns in the state, as willing aspirants would throw their hats in the ring for various elective positions.
The meeting which was attended by APC coordinators and facilitators in the state also provided the platform for Okorocha to intimate his party members and aides that the political climate was changing and they should show interest in elective seats so that his own ambition would be considered as well.
The statements stated: “Following this scenario, it becomes obvious that those of them who are political appointees would resign to pursue their ambition which the governor had assured them that they would receive his blessings as soon as they support him in his own ambition.”
