Yorubas, We Can’t Eat Our Cake And Have It--By Teekay Akin [Akin Adeseye]

Map Of Western Nigeria
Even as a Yoruba man, I must doff my hats to the Biafrans. The were smart enough to see Nigeria for what its for and have the dignity, self-pride, determination, race-pride, intelligence and decency to break away from Nigeria and form Biafra. Now their then leaders, men, women and children, I doff my hats to and to their lost ones in the war, I salute.A people that stand for their independence from a colonial enclave and forced marriage, I must always commend.
Our own so called Yoruba leaders, with their flowing agbadas sold out their people and race for political offices within the slave and called Nigeria; the sold out their own kind, sold out their freedom and independence for a few Naira notes and offices.Imagine if our so called leaders had had the dignity and decency to also seek the right path of independence from the sham called Nigeria, Nigeria surely wouldn’t be in existence today. But what did they do? They teamed up with the Northerners and foreign nations to destroy Biafra and deny a people their rightful independence.
These are the same people who claim to have fought or rather begged for the Nigerian independence. Let us get this straight – They ‘fought’ for Nigerian independence from the British BUT then turn around and deny Biafra its own independence. isn’t that just ironic? Now for those who still blindly we actually got independence, you can see between the lines yourselves.
Now, some Yorubas following these so called leaders and immortalising them now have the guts to complain against an Hausa dominated Nigeria. Are you folks really serious?
When we had the chance to break free and go our own way, what did your so called immortalised leaders do?
Oh, Yes, they fought and killed Biafrans to keep Nigeria one. Now, Nigeria is one, deal with it!Why now cry and whinge and spew vile everywhere? Why act like the idea of Nigeria splitting up came from amongst you?No. Biafrans saw that first and not only did they speak and write about they PUT IT INTO PRACTICE!Did you read that? I repeat: THEY PUT IT INTO PRACTICE!
You lot are here ranting here and there, grumbling like you were forced to be and remain in Nigeria. Your so called leaders sold you out and still do. They made the choice, DEAL WITH IT!
You can’t eat your cake and have it!You can’t light your home on fire, go in and lock the doors and then cry and scream that the house is on fire.We aren’t fools and we can read and study history, it’s less than a century.
So before you go on with your tribalistic jingoism, remember you once had the chance to leave this dammned union and what did you do? You stuck with it and even fought and died to keep it one. So live with your choices.
And now if you wish to change your choices, you know what to do. Take up whatever is necessary and split the damn so called nation. It is that simple!
