ATTEMPT TO COVER UP FCT MINISTER'S SON MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE UNCOVERED, DECEASED FAMILY TO PETITON JONATHAN, NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

FCT Minister Alhaji Bala Mohammed
Three years after the   Federal Capital Territory (FCT), minister’s son, Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed, crushed 22-year-old Mark Musa with his posh Mercedes Benz car,  along Shehu Musa Yar’adua Expressway, opposite National Health Insurance Scheme headquarters, the Musa family is asking for justice. The high profile manslaughter case was hushed up a week after it happened. The family is crying foul as all attempts in the past to bring the minister’s son to justice failed.
Consequently the family has threatened to take the case to the President, Human rights Commission and the National Assembly. A member of the family Mr John Nanzip Duamlong who spoke with Pointblanknews.com said they have decided to petition President Goodluck Jonathan, Human Rights Commission and the National Assembly. He said ” We have done all we could, they claim they have ‘settled’ the family, but that is a lie. We must give the poor a voice. We learnt he was drunk when the accident happened, we not saying he is guilty but they must let his face justice and if the court says he is free to go, fine, but to just sweep everything under the carpet because his father is minister”.
Duamlong an attorney, said ”we have decided to petition the President, human rights commission and the National Assembly, we have notified our representatives there as well” The sons of the minister have been in the news for the wrong reasons. Two children of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed,  allegedly stashed funds running into billions of naira in Unity Bank, UBA and another offshore account in Dubai. The duo is alleged to be  notorious for harassing and obtaining contracts from Directors in the FCT using fronts and phony companies. Checks have revealed a disturbing trend that may ultimately expose the level of corruption within the Federal Capital Administration led by Alhaji Bala Mohammed. The dad, a man who is hanging on to straws in the Jonathan’s administration because of his closeness to Mrs Jonathan, also has some issues back home. Most residents of Abuja have expressed disgust at his administration and unkempt nature of the city. compared to that of Nasir El Rufai. .The derelict nature of the city got the attention of Jonathan who warned him to sit up or be removed. The minister quickly blamed his directors for lying to him about the condition of the city.

Mohammed who wanted to run for Governorship in his state, Bauchi ,was rejected by his people as those back home, even though said the zoning arrangement did not favor him, his template which are his time as Senator and FCT minister have been some of his downsides. Instead of face prosecution, the FCT minister, Bala Mohammed used his influence to make the case disappear while his 28 year old son walked free.
The grand cover up started when the minister directed that the wrecked posh car which was dumped at the Utako police station be made to varnish. The minister became very uncomfortable when a newspaper published the photo of the car last April. Pointblanknews.com learnt that few days after, the car varnished from Utako. The police turned a blind eye to a clear case of vehicular man slaughter. Arrow head of the cover up was the Divisional Police officer (DPO) for Utako, Usman Umar who had before the tragedy benefited immensely from the generosity of the FCT minister.

Pointblanknews.com said that the minister’s son lost control of the car( brand new Mercedes E Class), he was driving at top speed and crushed the deceased as he was trekking to his house. The Mercedes slammed the deceased against the banister rail severing his body in half. It was not clear if Shamsudeen had been drinking, but he was driving at a very high speed that on impact with the victim, the cream colored car flipped several times. Miraculously, the minister’s son only sustained minor injuries , but his friend, Anwal, who is son of a Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), chieftain in Bauchi, sustained severe head injuries and died one hour later at Zankli Hospital.

It was learnt that shortly after the crash, the damaged vehicle was towed by police and men of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), to Utako police station, where the driver made a few statements, and allowed to go home for good. Pointblanknews.com gathered that the minister’s flank accused the family of the deceased of trying to extort him and his family.
The family was intimidated and asked to accept whatever is offered or risk going to court .

The minister was convinced his son would not be found guilty. It was not clear what the minister offered but, a source close to the Mohammed family according to pointblanknews.com said they wanted millions of naira when they realized shamsudeen is son of a minister. But they forgot that the guy who was killed was crossing a highway illegally on foot. There was no way they would have won in court”

When the intimidation became unbearable, the family of the deceased laborer gave up, and said they had left everything to God, as they could not institute a case against a serving minister’s son. The family had no choice but to accept what paltry sum was given to them. The accident claimed two lives, that of his friend and the pedestrian. In civilized nations where there is justice and rule of law Shamsudeen would be charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter. But because he is the son of the untouchable, he got away with it , pointblanknews said.

When the story broke back then,  spokesman, Nosike Ogbuenyin said there was no cover up. That the case was settled amicably. But he did not give details of what he meant by “settled amicably”
