It could be that Boko Haram has made it's way to the Eastern Heartland, as there was a reported bomb blast this morning, Sunday, June 15, at the Premises of the Living Faith Church, AKA Winners' Chapel, Owerri located along the Owerri-Port Harcourt express road, Imo State.
According to www.dailytimes.com.ng, there were up to six bombs, which were targeted at the worshippers for the day's service. Meanwhile, one of the bombs planted went off before the service scheduled for 8am commenced.
However, the Police Public Relations officer for the Imo state Command, DSP Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incidence, said, it was the police who detonated the bomb because they suspected it was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and that the bomb didn’t go off on its own. He said the discovery of the bombs was made yesterday night by security men at the Winners’ Chapel church who were very alert. "When they sighted an abandoned hand bag close to the church’s gate they quickly notified the police and the bombs were detonated before it could cause any harm."
He added that they have also gone on air to alert other churches, as well as densely populated areas to be on the alert and watch out for such suspected objects and notify the police as quickly as possible. The PPRO added that investigation into the incident has started, although no arrest had been made as at the time of this report this morning.
