The Federal government has frozen all bank accounts being operated by Adamawa State government amid impeachment moves been carried out by the Adamawa State House Of Assembly against the State governor, Murtala Nyako.
Speaking to the Press today, the Director of Press and Public Affairs in Adamawa Government House, Ahmad Sajoh confirmed the development which he said has exposed the desperate efforts by President Goodluck Jonathan to witch hunt officials he perceived as enemies even if it means subjecting the electorate to hardship. He said the closure of accounts would affect workers and salaries and social services especially during Ramadan fasting.
However, a highly reliable source said the action was to prohibit any desperate move by Nyako and his cronies from moving State funds out of the accounts.
In another development, there has been report, small pockets of protests within Adamawa metropolis, but police is said to have taken control.
Meanwhile, the Military have shut down Yola International Airport, preventing Nyako from taking off to Abuja this morning where he is expected to attend a meeting initiated by former British prime minister, Gordon Brown today. Air Force personnel thronged the airport early in the morning today, chased staff away from the control tower and put the entrance to the airport terminal under lock.
More details to follow as news unfolds.
