Kano Nigeria: Several Persons Killed In Emirship Tussle!

Report has it that several people have died in a violent clash between the supporters of Sanusi Bayero, who occupied the palace premises in order to prevent Kano governor’s emir-designate, and the persons who were mobilized to dislodge them. As the curiously under-reported protest enters the second day, the supporters of Sanusi Bayero gathered in their thousands around the palace and insisted on the enthronement of their popular and preferred choice – Sanusi Bayero.
A crowd, said to have been mobilized to engage the palace-occupiers approached the area in order to exhibit some acceptance for Lamido Sanusi, but they met a violent resistance which left many of them dead and several others injured.
Air force helicopters hovered above in the Kano skies, probably trying to figure out a way out of the mess created by politicians who chose to complicate an otherwise simple process.
In the meantime, schools have been closed down, markets shut and many residents holed up in their homes in apprehension. Even if a way was now found to retain Lamido Sanusi on the throne with minimum body-bags added to the recorded casualties since yesterday,it is doubtful if the political goal which the APC pursued to this desperate point would be met, with an unpopular emir on the throne and millions of voters with very long memories on the streets.
The worst possible scenario which must be on the minds of security agencies right now, would be the angle of Boko Haram and the opportunities handed to it through this man-made problem.
