Gov. Nyako |
Barely a week after 19 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly served the state Governor, Murtala Nyako, and his deputy, Barrister James Ngilari, an impeachment notice, 13 of the lawmakers have been prevailed upon to rescind their decision to sack the governor and his deputy.
Reports say the lawmakers changed their minds after they met with Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja at the weekend.
Last week the lawmakers in the state House of Assembly haved served a two-week impeachment notice on Nyako and Ngilari. But in a sudden twist, 13 of them said they were withdrawing their signatures on the impeachment notice.
Atiku’s intervention was borne out of the fact that he is not only a leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, but also an influential political leader in Adamawa State. The governor and the majority of the lawmakers in the state House of Assembly are APC members.
Sources said that since the ipeachment notice was served the governor, he had left Yola, the Adamawa state capital to Abuja, to consult with APC leaders on how to stop the impeachment process.
His trouble-shooting efforts appear to have paid off following the decision of 13 of the lawmakers to back out of the impeachment plot. Source: www.pmnewsnigeria.com
