UKRAINE CRISIS: Russia Sues McDonald’s Over High-Calorie Food, Pepsi-Cola Could Follow!

In his bid to retaliate over the recent economic sanctions on his country and individuals following Russia's activities in Ukraine, Russian president Vladimir Putin has decided to sue the global fast-food giant  Mc DONALD'S.
Almost a quarter of a century after the opening of Russia’s first McDonald’s in Moscow, the country has decided to sue the fast food giants over the quality of their food.
The Russian consumer protection agency has filed a claim accusing the chain of violating government regulations regarding nutritional quality of food in several of its products.
The perceptive members of Rospotrebnadzor – the official title of the agency – have pointed out that the food is too high in calories, and have called for a ban on the production and sale of ice cream, milkshakes, cheeseburgers, and Filet-o-Fish and McChicken sandwiches.

‘We have identified violations which put the product quality and safety of the entire McDonald’s chain in doubt,’ Anna Popova, the head of the consumer protection agency, told Interfax.
But just as commentators saw the first branch’s opening as an indicator of the end of the Cold War and the rise of the free market economy, there are now claims that this rejection of the fast food giants – a global symbol of Americana - reflects the country’s escalating tensions with the West.
McDonald’s have already abandoned their branches in Crimea, a move which led some politicians to call for a nationwide closure.
‘It would be good if they closed here too… if they disappeared for good. Pepsi-Cola would be next,’ Ultra-nationalist politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky told Russian media. Source: www.metro.co.uk
