Speaker Hon. Aminu Tambuwal |
The campainers, who went through security bottlenecks to meet with the speaker, came to clear their doubts on government’s commitment in rescuing the girls
It has been 92 days since the abduction of the girls from their dormitory in a government secondary school in Chibok, Borno State and 77 days since the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ campaign started across the country.
Seventy-two days ago, the leader of the campaign group in Abuja, a former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, met with the House of Representatives leadership over efforts to secure the release of the girls and today, they are back to get an update and a reassurance that something concrete is being done.
While assuring the campaigners that efforts are on to secure the girls’ release, Mr Tambuwal said the government must negotiate with the insurgents if that is the option to bring the girls back.
He further pointed out that the government was facing such insurgency for the first time with a security that is ill prepared for the challenge but urged the campaigners not to relent on their efforts to constantly bring pending issues before the authorities and demand accountability.
