97 Rank And File Of The Nigerian Military Set For Court Martial!

There has been widespread complaints of indiscipline and sabotage within the Nigerian military, which experts say are undermining the country’s fight against the Boko Haram insurgency. You would recall that a few weeks ago, about 12 soldiers or so were said to have been sentenced to death by a Court Martial for various offences which included the attack on their GOC.
 
In the latest development, the Nigerian military is set try 97 more soldiers for alleged offenses ranging from mutiny to indiscipline. Among the soldiers to be tried are 15 senior officers.
A General Court Martial will begin hearing October 15.
 
About two weeks ago another court martial handed death sentences to twelve soldiers after finding them guilty of mutiny and attempting to kill their commanding officer.
 
Military authorities now seem to be moving to address some the complaints.
President of the Court Martial, Brig. Gen. Musa Sani Yusuf said the soldiers would be given fair hearing. Among the offences the soldiers are accused of are; Mutiny, Assault, Absence Without Leave (AWOL), House Breaking, Conduct prejudicial to good orders and Service discipline.
 
Counsel to 68 of the accused soldiers, Femi Falana (SAN), who was at the inauguration of the Court Martial says he believes of the soldiers would get fair hearing as promised by the head of the general Court Martial.
 
The 15 senior officers among the accused are; Lt Col SS Tilawan, Lt Col DB Danzang, Lt Col IC Ogamanya, Lt Col SU Abubakar, Major II Sakaba, Capt M Hamadikko, Capt Z Alhaji, Capt MB Abdullahi, Capt SY Musa, Lt T Garba, Lt F Ogunleke, Lt A Abdullahi, Lt IM Okoro, Lt D Wunuji, 2Lt JM Uweh.
