According to The Telegraph, Facebook is in advanced talks with the satellite operator Avanti over a ground-breaking project to provide free internet access across swathes of Africa, as part of founder Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to connect the developing world.
It is expected that a deal between Avanti and the social network, under the auspices of its Internet.org initiative, will be announced soon.

Internet.org aims “to bring the Internet to the two thirds of the world’s population that doesn’t have it”.
In February, Mr Zuckerberg gave the keynote speech at the industry’s biggest conference, in which he called on them to help create “a basic dial tone for the internet” that would enable people to freely access information services such as Wikipedia.
He also wanted them to give free access to Facebook, with no charge to Facebook either, arguing it would spread digital literacy and drive mobile internet take-up, and so sales of handsets and contracts. Culled from The Telegraph
