The University of Pennsylvania USA has announced that they’ll be starting a new degree programme where students will be able to study ‘wasting time on the internet’.

From next year, students enrolled on the course will attend a weekly three hour seminar where they will be sat in front of a computer and unable to interact with each other verbally.

Instead, they’ll be restricted to doing everything via social media and chat rooms.

The resulting conversations from the seminars will then be compiled to create ‘substantial works of literature’.

Students are also required to read texts on the history of time wasting by famous music theorist John Cage. The course is run by the University’s Department of English and will be led by Professor Kenneth Goldsmith, a man best known, perhaps unsurprisingly, for his attempt to print off the entire internet.
