Bomb Blast Reported At The Venue Of President GEJ's Campaign In Gombe State

A suicide bomb blast went off today's afternoon at Abubakar Habu Hashidu Road, about 200 meters from the  Pantami stadium, venue of President Jonathan's campaign in Gombe state.

According to reports, the bomb which was planted in a stationed tricycle, went off just minutes after president Jonathan and his team left the venue of the campaign. Five people were confirmed dead with many more injured.

However, the Nigeria Police says President Jonathan was not the TARGET of the bomb blast. In an interview with Premium Times, the Gombe state Police command spokesperson, Fwaje Atajiri, said GEJ had long gone when the female suicide bomber stormed the road close to the venue of the rally.

"The president was long gone before the blast and if not for media, he would not (have known of the blast) so he could not have been the target. The suicide bomber was heading to her target when the bomb she was carrying went off in an empty place prematurely because of the high level of SECURITY put in place. The suicide bomber and a passerby were the ‎only casualties, while six persons were injured but not fatally.''
