Pope Francis Bestows The Title Of Doctor Of The Church On St. Gregory Of Narek

Pope Francis has confirmed that the title of Doctor of the Church has been given to St. Gregory of Narek. According to Vatican Radio, the news was released on Saturday. Meeting with Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Cause of Saints on Saturday ahead of his departure for Aricca on Lenten retreat, the Pope confirmed the proposal put forward by the Plenary Session of the Congregation to confer the title of Doctor of the Universal Church on St. Gregory of Narek.

The title of Doctor is reserved for saints who have contributed in some way to the learning of the faith. St. Gregory of Narek was born in Narek, Armenea in 950. His mother died when he was young. He and his two brothers entered the monastery of Navekavark. St. Gregory was ordained a priest tat the age of 25. He taught at the monastery where he lived.......Read More @; Exermina
