Gowon Canvasses For Igbo Presidency, Says It Would Heal Civil War Wounds, War Was Not Based On Hatred For Ndi Igbo

Nigerian war time Military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), said on Wednesday that an Igbo president would help heal the civil war wounds, maintaining that he supports the idea of rotational presidency, pointblanknews.com reports. 

Gowon said this while delivering a lecture entitled “No Victor, No Vanquished: Healing the Nigerian Nation” to mark the 6th Convocation ceremony of the Chukwumeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, in Anambra. He explained that the civil war was not out of hatred for the late Igbo leader Odumegwu Ojukwu or the Igbos, but was based on the principle of a commitment to a robust Nigeria.

In response, one commentator simply named as meniru said ''if the war was not waged for the hatred of Ndigbo and their leader Ojukwu, why the Asaba massacre? If the war was not waged because of hatred for Ndigbo and their leader Ojukwu, why starvation as the best instrument of warfare that led to deaths of millions of Ndigbo women and children from kwashiorkor?

If the war was a "brotherly love affair", why the twenty pounds handout at the end of the war and the mass stealing of Ndigbo's bank deposits and other assets in Nigeria at the end of the war? If according to this maga-dog, the war was not born out of hatred, why did his army bomb churches, hospitals, markets, schools and even farmlands? '

'If the war was not out of asinine hatred for Ndigbo, why were all the foreign companies nationalized in Nigeria when Ndigbo were deprived of financial power to participate in their acquisition? If the war was not waged out of hatred, why did this mad man not grant general amnesty to all actors and participants in that war from the side of Biafra? If the war was a jolly jolly good fellas outing, why carpet bomb Biafran people?
