Jealous Husband On The Run After Killing Watchman

The Kenyasi No.2 Police Command  in the Asutifi South District in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana has mounted a search for Yaw Adjei alias Seth, a 41-year-old farmer, for allegedly butchering a 50-year-old night watchman who he suspected of having an affair with his wife, news.peacefmonline.com reports.

Briefing newsmen in an interview, Corporal Mahama Issah of the Kenyasi police said on Sunday, March 1, this year, Adjoa Amponsah, aka “Muaberwew”, who lived with her husband (Yaw Adjei) at Ntotroso and engaged in charcoal burning, came to Kenyasi to collect debts from her customers.

While waiting for her debtors, Muaberwew, who is four months  pregnant, gave her mobile phone to a certain man (name withheld) to charge for her. She then proceeded to her sister’s house to visit the latter’s child who had been admitted to the Hwidiem Hospital, which is close to their community.

Corporal Issah said after the said man had finished charging the phone and could not find Muaberwew, he decided to give it to Boadi Kwarteng, a 50-year-old night watchman at the D/A Girls’ Basic School in Kenyasi to be given to Muaberwew on her return. According to the police, Muaberwew did not come back until evening. However, while the phone was with the watchman, a call came through and when he picked, it happened to be the husband of Muaberwew, Yaw Adjei.

Adjei, who had been suspecting his wife of infidelity, immediately became suspicious of the watchman dating Muaberwew and decided to come to Kenyasi together with their two-year-old son, Akwasi, to ascertain what had prevented her wife from returning home.

Corporal Issah said upon arrival, Adjei saw the watchman in the company of the latter’s colleague in the street holding  his wife’s phone. “Being anxious of knowing the whereabouts of his wife, Adjei called Muaberwew’s phone twice to which the watchman responded but told him he did not know where the wife was,” the police said.

When the watchman decided to hand over the phone to him after realising he was the husband of Muaberwew, Adjei refused to take it. This led to a misunderstanding between the two resulting in a confrontation.

Adjei later accused the watchman of having an amorous affair with his wife and therefore threatened to kill both of them. According to Corporal Issah, when Muaberwew came back to the town and heard about the incident, she was advised not to return to their village at Ntotroso for fear of being killed by her husband.

“So the woman did not go back to the village and the following morning about 5:30 a.m. the watchman was found dead in a pool of blood with several wounds on his body including the head,” the police stated.

According to Corporal Issah, since the incident occurred, “Yaw Adjei has left his residence at the village after informing her mother that he had injured someone who was flirting with his wife”. Corporal Issah said the police had gathered that Yaw Adjei was an ex-convict with a record of a similar murder case at his hometown in Nkoranza.
