Politics Without Ideology; When Will Adamu Mu'azu Resign?

According to the Nigerian trubune, ''gone are the days when political parties and even politicians were guided by ideologies, today sound ideological judgment have been replaced with money. Unlike Nigerian's earlier attempt at party politics, where birds of the same feathers flocked together, things have really changed drastically. Then one had to be a thoroughbred progressive to identify with the likes of Obafemi Awolowo and later Bola Ige, Jakande, Ebenezer Babatope, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Akanu Ibiam, just to mention but a few. Their lives were more of that of service to the people than to themselves.

It is a well known fact and has formed views of millions of Nigerians that Nigerian political parties and generally Nigerian political system is dominated by personal ambition, monetary interests and ethnic electioneering over ideological principles. The defeat of the ruling  Peoples Democratic Party in the March 28th and April 11th general elections nearly two months ago has done more to exposing the fact that says ''Nigerian political system lacks the basic ideological principles that guides politics.''

Without being told PDP national chairman Adamu Mu'azu should have resigned as soon as his party lost the general election to the opposition. But the Nigerian factor will never let a man who led his party to the worse defeat in the history of Nigerian politics let go. Mu'azu did not only loos at the federal level, he lost at his ward, local government, constituency, senatorial district and at his state level. Tell me why this man should still call himself party leader/chairman.

In the United Kingdom, party leaders are resigning today en-mass for leading their various parties to a defeat in the yesterdays's general election. The Labour Party leader Ed Miliband within few hours of learning the election result even though he got re-elected in his own constituency, resigned his position as the party leader and then followed by Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrats leader and the UKIP leader Nigel Farage. They all gave up their positions for leading their various parties to the worse defeat ever, no if, no but......

Scenarios like these are unheard-of in Nigeria. Just tell me why Adamu Mu'azu of the PDP, a party leader/chairman who lost his constituency, local government, senatorial district and state to the opposition will still be doing as his party's leader and chairman? Nigerians looks like they stand alone in their own world when it comes to the general practices and principles of service to the people.

We are still hoping  and looking with desire and reasonable confidence that Adamu Mu'azu will before long tender his resignation, so that the Peoples Democratic Party will commence in earnest to rebuild and restructure.
