Ahead of the meeting of national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the thorny issue of zoning of National Assembly positions, APC senators-elect from the South-West have joined forces with their Peoples Democratic Party, PDP counterparts from the region to frustrate Bola Tinubu’s candidate for the Senate Presidency. Former Kwara State governor, Senator Bukola Saraki; his Benue State counterpart, Senator George Akume and Senator Ahmed Lawan from Yobe state are top contenders for the office.
Tinubu, who is APC National Leader, is championing the candidature of Lawan, after dumping Akume. An APC senator-elect from the South-West who spoke with Nigerian Pilot on condition of anonymity, said though they respect Tinubu as a leader of the party, they would oppose his attempt to impose a candidate on them without their inputs. He denied that there is consensus among South-West senators-elect to support Tinubu’s candidate.
