According to a news report by Daily Trust Newspaper, no fewer than ten people were reported killed in a twin explosion at Gombe main market today. The first explosion happened at about 5:15 pm while the second one exploded five minutes later.
An anonymous eyewitnesses said the bomb must have been concealed in a bag and kept near the two shops probably because there is a large concentration people making last minutes shopping in preparation for the Ed -Maulud celebration. Another witness Usman Muhammad Tukur said he saw about ten death bodies being carried away from the scenes of the explosion. He said “we were in our shop when we heard a loud sound and immediately I told those in the shop to lie down while we were laying down, we heard the second explosion. When we came out from the shop I saw about ten death bodies being evacuated from the scene”.
No official confirmation about the exact casualties figures as at press time, however, sources told correspondents that NEMA and other emergency workers are still evacuating victims from the scene of the bomb blasts and taking them to Gombe specialists hospital.
