British Airways Plane Engine Sets On Fire Mid-flight

A British Airways plane was forced to make an emergency landing when one of its engines caught fire after technicians worked on the wrong aircraft, a report has revealed. The British Airways Airbus A319 returned to Heathrow with smoke billowing from one of its engines, minutes into its flight to Oslo, Norway, on May 24 2013. Atotal of 75 passengers and five crew were on board at the time. They all left the aircraft using emergency slides and exits.

The engineers who were tasked with inspecting the plane before take-off may have ‘experienced high levels of sleepiness’, an Air ACCIDENTS Investigation Branch (AAIB) investigation concluded.

It concluded: ‘Analysis of their WORKING time records showed that there was an increased risk that their performance could be compromised by fatigue. ‘This was induced by the significant level of planned and overtime WORKING that they had carried out prior to and including the shift in question. Read Full Gist Here
