Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has warned against what he described as the intimidation and harassment of Deputy Senate President, Mr. Ike Ekweremadu, by the police, allegedly on the instigation of the ruling All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, Mimiko, who is also the Governor of Ondo State, urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to respect the integrity of the National Assembly and other tiers of government.
According to the PDP Governors’ Forum chairman, he said the opposition party will resist all forms of tyranny and Gestapo tactics said to be employed by the APC in order to protect “our hard-earned democracy which the PDP sustained for 16 years.” Mimiko vowed that the Forum and the party will protect and defend the Deputy Senate President as he was overwhelmingly elected by his colleagues in the Senate.
He also cautioned the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, not to allow himself become a puppet in the hands of the APC, stressing that it would greatly undermine the credibility of the police.
The statement further quoted the governor as backing the PDP’s call for the immediate removal of the acting Chairperson of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr. Amina Zakari, due to what the governor described as her conflict of interest given her alleged “cosy association with President Buhari.” Source; Punchng.
