Arik Air management today issued a statement as one of it's staff identified as Chika Egwu Udensi was caught at London Heathrow Airport with 2.76 kg of contraband believed to be cocaine.
The statement as signed by their Airline's spokesman Mr Ola Adebanji read as follows;...
“The airline again reaffirms its commitment to the fight against drug and illicit substances’ trafficking and will not tolerate the use of any of its aircraft or crew for the courier of banned items and substances. Arik Air carries out very stringent checks on all members of staff and its travelling guests ahead of all flights.''
''The airline will continue to focus its attention on measures to prevent the possibility of any future similar incidents. Arik Air is a responsible Nigerian company always seeking to maintain and uphold the integrity and proud reputation of the nation.”.
You would recall that a female Arik staff was arrested in May 2013 at the same Heathrow airport London for allegedly carrying cocaine worth about N180 million. Temitayo Olubunmi Daramola was arrested with 6kg of cocaine while another hostess Delita Abibimgbi was arrested for having 60 packets of cigarettes in her possession. The max limit of cigarettes any passenger is allowed to carry is 10 packs.
Records also shows that a hostess working with Arik Airline named Ms Chinwendu Uwakaonyenma Ogbonnaya, was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Sunday 18th December, 2011 over an allegation of smuggling four kilogrammes of cocaine into the United Kingdom.
Looking at the trend of this illicit drug runs that is going on with Arik Air staffers, honestly speaking, it might not be far from the truth if one says, there could be a thing going on in this airline with the knowledge of certain top-shots in the firm. The Nigerian civil aviation management might as well call for a probe into this drug run and stop it now, before Arik Air and it's staffers stops Nigeria.
