Gov. Wike On The Rise, Wins CGPI July Governor Of The Month Award, Aminu Tambuwal In Second Position

Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike has been judged to be Nigerian Governor of the month of July based on a comparative analysis of Governors performance in Nigeria. The study tagged CIAPS Governors Performance Index (CGPI) is a monthly performance review of what Governors across the country are doing in their offices and it is conducted by the Lagos based Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS).

 

In a statement released by the Centre, the CGPI coordinator, Mr Olumuyiwa Ayoola explained that the variables used as indexes for performance were mathematically calculated and this month’s variables included “Readiness for office, Education, Innovation, Security, Employment and Economic Indicators”. According to Mr Olumuyiwa Ayoola, actions and declarations of each state governor were monitored and studied from the first day in July and the findings were graded and compared to that of fellow governors across the country.

 

In the month of July, the CGPI results show that Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike scored a total of 70% to win the CGPI Governor of the month award whilst Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto scored a total of 68% for a second place. In third place this month with a total of score of 64% is the governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai who scored the highest number of votes last month.

 

Commenting on the CGPI report, CIAPS Centre Director and CGPI Chair, Prof Anthony Kila stated that the “CGPI is a useful tool for democracy and good governance as it allows government to be objectively measured against their peers and compels all in power to be mindful of accountability”. Prof Kila further explained that though these are early days it is crucial for those governing the country to know that their performance is being closely and continuously observed. According to Kila, since they get paid from day one in office then their performance in office should be measurable from day one in office.

 

Kila further explained that he hopes that the CGPI monthly reports will allow governors to sit up, improve their performances during their tenure and even enter into healthy competition between themselves for the benefit of their states and the country as a whole. The CGPI committee will continue to meet monthly at CIAPS to review performance of state governors in the country.
