ODD NEWS; National Association Of Nigerian Prostitutes Election Marred With Violence!

Mayhem broke out at the annual elections of the National Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (Nanp) yesterday with delegates resorting to violence after the result for its presidency was disputed by the defeated incumbent.

At the elections which held in Lagos over the weekend, former secretary, Jessica Elvis was declared winner of the keenly contested poll. She apparently got 300 votes to defeat the incumbent, Madam Felix Efoyo, who garnered 153 votes, while Nasarawa State coordinator, Tamar Tion, came third with 63 votes.

After the results were declared, violence broke out when the incumbent president Madam Efoyo rejected the outcome of the election, claiming that it was marred with irregularities. Shortly after the electoral committee chairman, Franca Chikam announced Madam Elvis as the winner, Madam Efoyo revolted and ordered for a fresh election on the ground that she was rigged out.

In the cause of the argument, fighting broke out and one person believed to be loyal to Madame Efoyo broke a bottle and stabbed one of their members. It is not yet clear if the election will stand or if delegates will accept the call for a re-run.

Of late, Nanp has tried to turn itself into a pressure group to fight for better conditions for Nigerian sex workers. Last year, the Nigerian chapters of African Sex Workers Alliance and the Women of Power Initiative led the protests with demonstrators wearing T-shirts, looking to better the plight of sex workers. nigerianwatch
