A man has died after he fell into a hole and construction workers inadvertently tarmaced over him.
Latori Barman, 45, who is believed to have been drunk, was on his way home in Katni, India on Friday night when he fell into a ditch.
His wife, having returned to their house to find him missing, alerted neighbours – but she was unable to prevent the tragedy. The next morning, workers arrived to repair the road and filled the hole with tarmac. A heavy roller was then used to flatten the surface.
A passer-by is said to have spotted Barman’s arm protruding from the freshly laid road and alerted the authorities. The body was then removed. An investigating officer told the Times of India: “It was dark and there were no warning signs.
“He would have been walking in an inebriated condition when he fell into the pit between Udlana and Hata village and lost consciousness. “Workers must not have noticed him while filling the pothole with bitumen.” Police said the man’s next of kin will be given 50,000 rupees as compensation. A road worker and driver have reportedly been arrested. Source; Yahoo! New
