I think the Nigerian army still has a long way to go before they can become fit for purpose in almost every department. Today President Buhari will tell the world during one overseas trip or the other, that ''we are negotiating with Boko Haram,'' tomorrow he will say another. But what has continued to baffle me and those of you who reason with me is the way, the government and their military agents have continued to think or pretend.
More than two years after the Chibokgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram, the Nigerian army has continued to speak in a way giving the impression that the kidnaped Chibokgirls are being kept in a camps, as against various stories that the girls have been married out to militants, some used as suicide bombers and some have escaped from their enslavement and reunited with their families.
And to continue to hear the military makes such statements as in above, is completely deceitful and unprofessional.
A few days ago, a video and picture images of what appeared to be hundreds of Boko Haram militants having a free open-air Sallah prayers and celebration in the same forest the military claims to have dismantled, surfaced, even as they said the sect are now scattered here and there, seeking for a hideout.
According to a news report from punchng.com, the Acting Director, Defence Information, Military Headquarters, Abuja, Col. Rabe Abubakar,at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, said that even though it's imperative to the military to rescue the kidnapped Chibokgirls, there was no immediate hurry to do so because their rescue demanded adequate patience and planning.
''The operation to recover the Chibok girls is alive and still on-going. We have continued to make rescue efforts, and we will do all within our powers to bring the girls.'' “However, we will not rush to do this. It requires diligent intervention and a high-level operation to rescue the girls. In due time, every captive of Boko Haram will be released.''
“We want to assure our citizens that soon, insurgency will be a thing of the past. But, it is not only about the military or the North-Eastern region. It is our collective duty to ensure that there is peace in the country. the army bloke said.
My concern here is that, the Nigerian army should be reoriented and thought how not to mislead their own citizens, government and country in general by always giving out info as it is, without having to sweet tongue anybody by giving false impressions and incorrect account of any situation or they keep quiet, if they have noting truthful and tangible to say.
