At Last Buhari Appoints A Substantive INEC Chairman And He Is Also A Prof.

President Buhari's Council of State has approved the appointment of Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, as the substantive Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

You would recall that Mr Buhari had appointed Mrs Amina Bala Zakari his sister in-law and a relative as the Acting Chairman of INEC following the expiration of Prof. Attahiru Jega's tenure. The appointment which did generate loads of controversy should now be done and dusted as Nigerians would be looking forward to the appointment of all other INEC commissioners as recommended by the 1999 constitution as amended, so that the Bayelsa and Kogi States governorship elections would be held within the ambits of the law.

We brought you news here according to the Nigerian human right and constitutional lawyer Femi Falana, in which he reminded the President that any election held under the Mrs Zakari and as INEC was constituted before today's appointment would be illegal and unconstitutional and could be quashed by any court of law.

The substantive INEC Chairman, Yakubu is a professor of political history and international studies He was Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. He is an expert in guerrilla warfare, terrorism and counter-terrorism and he was part of the team at last year's national conference.

We wish to congratulate Prof. Mahmud Yakubu on his appointment as we look forward to a more vibrant and transparent electoral system in Nigeria. Kudos dude!

It is also good to mention here that President Buhari maintained the tradition of appointing professors to this highly esteemed position as is the case since records began.
