New Mother Gives Birth To ‘Incredibly Rare’ Identical Triplets And They Are Too Cute For Words

Kristen and Tom Hewitt welcomed a set of extremely rare identical triplets into the world. Earlier this month the new mum from Baltimore gave birth to not one, not two, but three buns she had in her oven. Doctors said the likelihood of babies, like the Hewitt’s three, being conceived without the use of IVF could potentially be as high as one in a million. Although there are very few absolute statistics on them.

Doctor Khouzami, who delivered Thomas III “Tripp,” Finnegan “Finn,” and Oliver “Ollie”, said, “Incidences of fraternal twins are much higher (90 percent) than identical (10 percent), but, it is even a more significant ratio for triplets.”

Although all three boys were born in “excellent condition” it wasn’t all plain sailing in the build up. There is a much higher risk to mothers who have multiple births than single birth pregnancies.

To add to this, Kristen had been diagnosed with preeclampsia just a week and a half before going into labour. A condition characterised by high blood pressure, which in some cases can lead to serious life-threatening complications. Virathread
