Husband Of 9/11 Hero Hands Back-In ‘Woman Of The Year’ Award In Protest For Caitlyn Jenner's 2015 Win

The husband of a heroic policewoman who ran back into Tower Two on 9/11 – and died trying to save people inside – has returned her Woman of the Year award in protest at Caitlyn Jenner’s win this year. Moira Smith, 38, ran repeatedly into the tower to help evacuate people trapped inside – and her husband called it ‘an insult’ that the award was given to Jenner this year.

Smith was given Glamour Magazine’s Woman of the Year award posthumously in December 2001. Her husband posted the award back to the magazine offices, and put an open letter on Facebook, saying, ‘At a time when we have women in the armed forces fighting and dying for our country, heroic doctors fighting deadly diseases, women police officers and firefighters putting their lives on the line for total strangers, brave women overcoming life threatening diseases…the list of possibilities goes on…is this the best you could do?’

Glamour magazine responded, ‘We were proud to honor his wife in 2001, and we stand by our decision to honor Caitlyn Jenner.’ Culled from; metro.co.uk
