Southern Leaders To President Buhari, ''Respect Rule Of Law And Release Nnamdi Kanu.''

The Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly, SNPA, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to release the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, in accordance with court orders, which granted him bail, thetrent reports.

In a communique issued at the end of the a two-day meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Wednesday, October 19, 2016,  the group accused Northern elders of creating division and suspicion in the polity through their attitude of regarding the present administration as exclusively theirs.

“President Muhammadu Buhari should respect the rule of law, pronouncements and ruling of courts of competent jurisdiction by ensuring the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and all other prisoners of conscience, which various courts have granted bail and who have subsequently met their bail conditions.” The communique which was signed by  by Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, Chief Edwin K. Clark ,and Senator Femi Okurounmu read in part.

The group also condemned the activities of herdsmen and called on South East governors to adopt the Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State model. They  further called on the Federal Government to negotiate with the Niger Delta and Biafra agitators to find a peaceful resolution of their grievances, rather than the current use of force.

You would recall that the acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, was on Saturday, October 17, 2015 arrested by Nigeria’s secret police, the State State Services (SSS). He has been in detention since his arrest despite court orders granting him bail.
