Two Nigerian Heavyweight Politicians, Gbenga Daniel & Buruji Kashamu Trade Words On Assassination Attempt!

The former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has written the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on an attempt to assassinate him in his Abuja Residence on Thursday evening.

In a letter addressed to the IGP and copied to the Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS on Friday, Otunba Daniel said the event happened around 9.13pm on Thursday evening with about 5 hefty men with 2 in military regalia bombarding his Abuja residence anxiously looking for him.

Daniel explained that the assailants on gaining entry to the house were furious to know the number of security detail attached to him thereby forcing one to be locked in a toilet not knowing he had his service gun with him.

According to the Ogun PDP Chieftain, efforts of the said officer to scare them away yielded positive results as they scampered to safety in a black Camry car after attempts to get “OGD” as they furiously asked ended fruitlessly.

He said “They asked for his boss “OGD” (that was the acronym from my full name, Otunba Gbenga Daniel) and he told them I was not at home. The 5 men instantly alighted from the car and pushed the gateman forcefully into the compound and started beating him saying he was lying and that they had information that I was at home.”

“Meanwhile the Police that was locked in the toilet luckily had his gun kept in that toilet. He took his gun, went through the ceiling and landed in another main toilet that was not locked and started firing his gun. That was when they took to their heels and escaped. They were said to be carrying pistols or shotguns while one of them who carried a bigger gun stood watch at the gate as the operation lasted.”

Otunba Daniel, however, added that the development was suspicious and could be traced to the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu as the latter has for a long time embarked on multiple attacks to smear him politically.

The politician maintained that Thursday’s failed assassination was targeted at him as the assailants were said to have said that “They returned to the Gatekeeper and told him to start showing them around the house where the other Policemen were, while insisting that they have accurate information that “OGD” is in Abuja and at home.”

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Buruji Kashamu, has described the alarm raised by former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, that he sponsored an alleged assassination attempt on his life as a “hoax, spurious allegation without any basis in fact and evidence whatsoever”.

A statement issued by Kashamu’s Media Adviser, Austin Oniyokor, said, “It is certain that OGD is hallucinating. He is the accuser, the investigator, prosecutor and judge in his own case. Pray, why would Senator Kashamu go after a man who is at the twilight of his political career? By the grace of God, the Distinguished Senator Buruji Kashamu is PDP’s highest political office holder in Ogun State despite the OGD’s efforts to make him lose the election. So, why would he want to attack a former Governor who has lost political relevance six years after leaving office? Is OGD the only former Governor in Ogun State?

“All the good people of Ogun State know who is violent between Senator Kashamu and OGD. Whereas all Nigerians know that Ogun State was under the siege of violence and politically-motivated killings during OGD’s reign as governor of Ogun State, Senator Kashamu fights his political battles in the court of law and public opinion using his God-given resources. He does not have any record of violence since he joined partisan politics. OGD cannot boast of such Spartan record. The intelligence and security agencies can attest to this fact.

“Clearly, OGD is hallucinating and afraid of his shadows. Otherwise, what would have been expected of sane mind was to report the incident to the Police and allow them to do their job of investigating the incident. But, in this case, because he is desperate to score a cheap political point and seek relevance for his dimming political career, he has to raise the false alarm and pin it on someone who does not even care if he exists. In doing this, he has sheepishly assumed the role of the accuser, investigator and prosecutor or judge in his own case. What a childish way to play cheap politics! ”
