President Buhari Fails In An Attempt To Score Cheap Political Points Over Alex Ekwueme's Illness. Nigerians Reacts!
A very unusual and ill-judged attempt by President Muhammadu Buhari to score cheap political points over the illness of former Vice President Alex Ekwueme has failed to go by the reactions on social media.
According to the law, former presidents and vice presidents of Nigeria have entitled to medical treatment anywhere in the world and there is no limit to their medical coverage. So there is nothing for a president to “order” or “approve” for him to be treated abroad. It is an entitlement and it is at the discretion of the former leader.
Nigerians quickly took to social media platforms like Twitter to expose the hypocrisy and propagandistic nature of the presidential press statement.
Many said it was was an attempt to attract favor in the South East, where Ekwueme comes from and where Buhari has high unfavorable public relations standing.
Reno in a Facebook post wrote “treatment abroad is a right of an ex-vice president. President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t do Ekwueme a favour. President Goodluck Jonathan purchased bulletproof vehicles for Buhari without announcing it. It is only a petty and shallow administration eager to score cheap political points with a sick man’s health that announces that the President has given the man his due!".
Here below are some of the tweets.
