As the clampdown on the press continues, the Nigerian police today arrested one Daniel Olomba, a blogger based in the United Kingdom. Daniel was said to have been picked up by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the Nigeria Police Force alongside his brother, Tim.

The United Kingdom-based publisher was holidaying in his hometown of Nnewi, Anambra state when he was picked up today Monday, January 1, alongside his brother, Tim. Daniel Elombah and allegedly whisked away by SARS to an unknown destination. 

According to reports, Elombah was picked up for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari in an article he published on his blog. NAIJ.com. Many Nigerians have however taken to Twitter to call for the release of the publisher, who is also a lawyer. 

Prominent among those calling for Elombah's release is a former minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. The former minister also claimed he received a call from Daniel's wife detailing how her husband was forcefully arrested. A text message sent to the police spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood by NAIJ.com, to inquire if the arrest was true was responded to swiftly. With naija.ng
