A MUST READ: EFCC Makes Major Progress, Gets A Former Plateau Governor Sent To 14 Years In Prison For Fraud!

The Nigerian anti-corruption crusade seems to have started yielding the required fruitful result. According to reports, a former Plateau State governor, Senator Joshua Dariye has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for criminal breach of trust, and 2 years for misappropriation of public funds. Dariye was facing charges over diversion of N1.161 billion while he was in office.

The Federal Capital Territory High Court judge, Adebukola Banjoko, found Dariye guilty of diverting funds to the PDP in the state among other groups.

The counts relate to the diversion of N80 million to the PDP, N100 million to a company, Marine flow, and other sums through the All-State Bank.

Dariye, during court proceedings Tuesday afternoon, stood up and asked the prosecution lawyer to be merciful. “Be merciful. You are a Christian, your name is Jacob,” he said.

After a trial that lasted about 8 hours, Justice Adebukola Banjoko sent Dariye to jail and noted that Dariye was, in fact, richer than his state, and “there should be no compromise to corruption by whatever shade or color, rich or poor”.

Banjoko had, a few weeks ago, also found former Taraba governor, Jolly Nyame guilty of misappropriation of public funds and sentenced him to 14 years in jail. Dariye is currently a senator on the platform of Nigeria’s ruling party, APC, to which he decamped in 2016. With NR
