THE DIE IS CAST; GREAT SEEMS OUT OF GREAT BRITAIN AT LAST!

By Frank Uche Dibia.
Downing street on Thursday 29th August failed to win the house of Commons's vote to intervene in Syria and help stop the killing of defenceless and innocent civilians by the use of Chemical weapon by Al-Asaad Syrian regime. Britain has always played a front line role in the world affairs when it comes to virtually anything you can think of, ranging from aid, peace keeping, humanitarian, developmental, just name it. Dating back to stone age, the 2 world wars, Kosovo, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan and lately Libya, just to mention but a few, Britain has been a world player and most especially where and when it matters most.

The greatest democracy in the world, rooted in constitutional legitimacy and respect for human rights, uses it's might for the good of the entire world. This international leadership role has always earned Britain great respect from the Americans, the French, the Chinese and even the Germans with the Russians constantly making reference to the British Democracy as a global model. Little wonder then why this 'special relationship between Great Britain and United States' the only remaining super power. The special relationship was demonstrated even further in the days of the Golf war and most recently in the decision to provide the Syrian rebels with non lethal military gears to help them withstand the murderous Syrian Al-Asaad. Until last week, the talk over Syria was to continue to supply the rebels with non lethal gears. The situation only got worse by the killing of well over 1400 innocent civilians with chemical weapon by President Al-Asaad regime. This singular act negates international law and by the UN convention, calls for serious consequences on the side of the regime.

It is obvious that getting the United Nations to do the needful would be impossible owing to the side two of the five permanent members of the United Nations security council have taken in recent years. Russia and China seems to be playing games with the other three. Trying as hard as possible to frustrate any of their moves to get any decent resolution passed through the UN security council these days, simply because they want to be seen as very important players. They seems to have formed a rogue alliance to keep frustrating the Security council with their veto.

This is now querying the rational behind not giving the five permanent membership a democratic status in their voting and remove the right to veto when the majority has taken the day in any issue or motion. The second option could be to expand the permanent membership of the security council with countries like Germany, India, Nigeria, Turkey or Israel to bring in the needed balance to this elite club and help check mate the rogue attitude of any member State.

Haven said that, there has always been a provision in United Nation's convention which give individual countries powers to intervene to protect civilians and in cases of humanitarian assistance. That was the root that was taken in the days of the Libya uprising two years ago.

Determined not to be stopped this time from punishing the Al-Asaad regime for the use of chemical weapon on a large scale, the British, the French and the Americans have been consulting with their other allies to reach a consensus on when and how to deal with President Al-Asaad of Syria and to deter any other rogue State or Nation who might be watching and would wish to use same should his government be threatened. Thought are that by this weekend the barrels would be sounding with pin point precision at targets directed at Al-Asaad and his cohorts for his murderous rain of chemical weapon on his own people. But that thought was dealt a heavy blow Thursday night. The British House of Common voted down their Premiere's  motion to be authorised to go along with their allies  and restore decency in Syria and punish Al-Asaad and his government. This decision of the Greatest Democracy in the world at this time of need, has not only deserted the defenceless Syrian civilians, but has also stained, if not damaged the highly valued British-American 'Special relationship'. From now no wards, America may not continue to see Britain as a reliable Allie. This is evident in the sounds of rhetoric that are coming out of White house and on the streets of Washington to the armoury of the Pentagon .
The British has finally turned their back on the defenceless civilians anywhere in the world and not just Syrians.

Look, quote me right, the last struck that still holds the Great in Great Britain has finally fallen. What is remaining now is for Spain to grab back Gibraltar and Argentina the Falkland Island. The British system now seem too democratic and playing against it's self. The days of Great in Great Britain seems to have come and gone, leaving the country with a weaker Premier and an Opposition Leader not even fit enough to be a Premier.

The souls of the Great Sir Winston Churchill, that of the Iron Lady Baroness Thatcher of blessed memory and the naked eyes of Mr Tony Blair, I know would be in shame by now as they watch this development from their graves with Mr Blair a physical eye witness.

I wish there could be a soft landing for Britain in this circumstance or in any case let the Commons have a second look at what they have done to the Great in Great Britain.
