Europe, A Beehive Of Racism: Belgian Newspaper De Morgen Links Barack Obama And All Black People To Monkey!

President  Barack Obama
We have heard of bans on football grounds over racism chants and other loads of solidarity movements for Europe to take a hard stand on racism and still the rate of racism in Europe nowadays is taking a higher dimension. From Britain to Germany, to The Netherlands, to Russia, to Belgian, to France, to Hungary, to Italy to Spain, to mention but a few, there is hardly any month you don't record a major racism incident.

But what a Belgian newspaper  has done is now legalizing racism, being a member of the press, a medium through which we can spread the message. The newspaper printed a picture of Barack Obama which was doctored to make him look like an ape. De Morgen, a Belgian title, published it days before the US president makes a visit to commemorate the start of World War I.
According to metro.co.uk, the feature – labelled as satire – also said Mr Obama began selling cannabis after becoming the first black president. The newspaper pretended the doctored photographs were sent in by Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Pictures of the section have circulated online with mixed opinions. Some have praised the freedom given to the Belgian press, while others called it racist. One user on the social-networking site Reddit wrote: ‘White people are also portrayed as apes – look at recent pictures of George W Bush.’ Another commenter replied: ‘Bush is compared with apes because he’s stupid – not because he’s white. The caption here specifically mentions race – the photo is directly implying that black people are comparable with apes and is, therefore, racist.’
This is not the first time a newspaper has depicted Mr Obama as an ape. In 2009, the New York Post issued an apology after printing a cartoon with a similar theme. It added: ‘Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon, even if the opportunists make it something else. The article led to a debate on whether there is too much racism in Europe. One Reddit user wrote: ‘Just because a stupid newspaper in Belgium makes a racist picture does not mean that every other country is racist, too.''
Notably, I think that time has come for a Global action against RACISM in Europe and beyond. The longer we wait, the longer it will take to arrest this Menace that is threatening to makes the world look like the Biblical Kane and Abel.
