Nigeria has been rated one of the top ten countries in the world where people are much more willing to volunteer their time for service to others or charity but not with their cash. We may think we are not stingy, but this years world giving index says otherwise.
The 2014 edition of the World Giving Index, which looks at charitable behaviour across the world, involving 135 countries. The report is based on more than a million interviews conducted by Gallup since 2005/06, as part of their World Poll survey.
The World Giving Index score is based on an average of three measures of giving behaviour - the percentage of people who in a typical month donate money to charity, volunteer their time and help a stranger. The three behaviours are also looked at on an individual basis within the report.
