Death by firing squad to execute inmates is being widely backed by officials in Utah, US.

Utah Politicians are supporting the proposals in a bid to avoid future problems with lethal injections.

According to the plans, a firing squad would be used if officials could not obtain drugs used for lethal injections 30 days prior to the execution date.

It comes after a global shortage because some European makers oppose to the death penalty.

It has forced some US states to use different types of drugs – but the results have been cruel for some on death row who endured drawn-out executions over the past year.
The drug-swapping has been widely criticised in court. www.metro.co.uk reports.
