A nurse tricked a man into believing he was a father after a one-night stand. Charmaine Wilson passed off a friend’s toddler as her own for six months after forging a birth certificate and DNA test to fool Liam Griffiths, metro.co.uk reports.

His family showered their ‘new beautiful boy’ with gifts and bought Wilson, 25, a car so she could drive to work at The Princess of Wales hospital in Bridgend.

The deception was uncovered when a relative of the boy spotted a picture of Mr Griffiths with his alleged son on Facebook. Mr Griffiths said: ‘I am devastated and heartbroken to have lost a child that I thought was my son and had bonded with this child.

‘We fell in love with him from the start and I am heartbroken to have lost him.’
Wilson was jailed for 16 weeks last month by magistrates but was freed by a judge at Cardiff crown court yesterday after serving 23 days. The court heard she told police: ‘It was a lie that snowballed out of control and I did not know how to stop it.’

Wilson had bombarded Mr Griffiths with messages after their encounter.
She approached him with the toddler in her arms after spotting him on a hospital visit to his dying grandfather............
