Eating Porridge (aka Quaker Oat) Could Be The Key To A Healthier & Longer Life - Research

Eating a small bowl of the edible paste (oat) each day can reduce the risk of dying from diseases such as cancer and heart disease, Harvard scientists found.

One ounce of whole grains eaten per day reduces the risk of death over a given time period by 5%.
The boost remains even when adjusted for other lifestyle factors such as smoking, drinking and being overweight.

Porridge is already popular with dieters due to its low calorie count and slow release of energy – but the new findings could make the oat breakfast even more popular with health-conscious eaters.

The study is the first to look at the impact of eating whole grains (such as the oats used in porridge) on life expectancy over the long term.

The large-scale study followed more than 100,000 people, both porridge-munchers and refuseniks, for 14 years, monitoring their diets and their health.
