Ex-Wife Told To Stop Sponging Off Millionaire And Get A Job

In what looks like a legal breakthrough for partners and spouses who are paying huge sums of money to their ex in the United Kingdom as divorce settlements and living allowances, a judge has told the ex-wife of a millionaire to get a job and stop sponging off her ex's millions, metro.co.uk reports.

Tracey Wright, 51, was told by Lord Justice Pitchford she has no right to be ‘supported for life’ in her £450,000 home at her ex-husband’s expense. The Court of Appeal judge said divorcees with children aged over seven should go to work.

The former riding instructor and mother-of-two chose not to seek work when she split from top racehorse surgeon, Ian Wright, in 2008. After 11 years of marriage, their £1.3million home, in 16 acres of countryside, was ordered to be sold and the money split. Mrs Wright got a mortgage-free house in Newmarket, Suffolk, plus stabling for her horse and her daughters’ ponies.

Her ex was ordered to pay her and the children £75,000-a-year in maintenance and school fees. About £33,200 of that was spousal maintenance for her upkeep. Mr Wright, 59, grew sick of the burden and last year went to the High Court to seek a cut. Upholding a previous ruling, the judge said: ‘It is essential she starts to work now.’ Payments will tail off over five years and cease when Mr Wright retires. Culled from; Metro UK
